Tieng Village is a village in Wonosobo Regency which has received government’s concern over casualties and losses caused by landslides. It mountainous topography and high rainfall make this area vulnerable to landslides. People have to overcome this threatening condition. Therefore, it is important to identify the progress of resilience in this community. The capacity to learn from past disaster is necessary to improve future protection. The level of resilient community is determined by identifying three components of resilience which also becomes research objectives.
Landslide potential hazard distribution is evaluated with GIS modeling. Parameters used are slope, landform, geology, soil depth, land use and rainfall. The result shows that 66% of 318.4 hectares of Tieng Village area is classified in high hazard while the rest is moderate. The number of people who are in danger is 1,081 people, or 25% of the total population. Moreover risk level is determined by assessing risk factors: hazard, vulnerability and response capacity. Risk level is classified as high and low. The result shows that 11.3% of settled areas are at the high risk level. Sidorejo hamlet is identified as the highest risk settlement, in which 60% of its area is in this level.
Perception about landslide knowledge on both high and low risk level is affected by respondent’s profile. Some respondents still believe that landslide is a fate. But most of them agree that disaster risk can be reduced. People use their own skills, materials and appropriate technologies to do both structural and nonstructural mitigation measures. Those are done collectively in which all people are helping and working together (“gotong royong”).
The conclusion is community in Tieng Village already had awareness of the issues and willingness to address them. They had sufficient capacity to deal with hazard threaten and capability to reduce the risk. Nevertheless, limitations make their efforts tend to be piecemeal and short-term.
