MURP – UGM. Yogyakarta takes the first place as the ideal city in Indonesia to enjoy retirement (Litbang Koran SINDO, 2014). In fact, the retirees living in Yogyakarta consists of 2 groups/types, they are retirees from Yogyakarta who choose not to move from Yogyakarta, and immigrant retirees who choose to move to Yogyakarta in retirement.

This thesis is composed by: Demarkasih Wighnanda Number : 14/370963/PTK/9764. Supervisor 1: Leksono Probo Subanu and Supervisor 2: Didik Kristiadi with the title: Yogyakarta as Housing Options for Retirees (Yogyakarta Sebagai Tempat Tinggal Pilihan Bagi Pensiunan).

This research aimed to identify and compare between retirees from Yogyakarta and immigrant retires on their profile/social economic status and the reasons/consideration factors in choosing Yogyakarta, and also to conclude whether the choosing of Yogyakarta occurs because Yogyakarta is really attractive to retirees or because of the other things that can cause retirees don’t really have another choice beside living in Yogyakarta.

This research used deductive-quantitive method, the convenience sampling method with questionnaire, and SPSS statistical analysis and descriptive meaning. The results showed that: (1) there are differences between the 2-types of retirees in their profile/social economic status when choosing Yogyakarta. Retirees from Yogyakarta who majority worked for the government have better economic conditions from high monthly pension fund, while immigrant retirees who worked for the private have better economic conditions in the early retirement from the large amount of pension fund. (2) Immigrant retirees and retirees from Yogyakarta have different consideration factors in choosing Yogyakarta.

Immigrant retirees prefer the physical factors (such as health care), while retirees from Yogyakarta prefer the non-physical (social) factors (such as easy to communicate with the community). (3) Yogyakarta was chosen because it is
attractive to retirees. Retirees are economically able to move to other city, but in the end they prefer to stay in Yogyakarta.

They are agree that there isn’t another city that is more comfortable than Yogyakarta to be the residence of choice in
retirement. Immigrant retirees also feel satistfied after they actually moved and stay in Yogyakarta.

Keywords: retirees, social economic status, consideration factors, residence of choice.
