Yogyakarta, June 15-17, 2026 — Marking the culmination of this semester’s practice-based academic activities, the Master’s Program in Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully hosted its Studio Final Semester Examination. The event served as a strategic platform for students to present their field research findings, in-depth analyses, and innovative planning programs for their designated study areas.

Divided into several working groups, students delivered comprehensive assessments of the current conditions in their respective locations. They analyzed crucial aspects ranging from spatial layouts and socio-economic dynamics to regional development challenges and opportunities. TULUNGAGUNG – The Tulungagung Regency Government, in collaboration with the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) program at Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for the Preliminary Report on the Tulungagung Urban Corridor Grand Design on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Bappeda Office. This meeting aimed to formulate the direction for sustainable aesthetic and functional development of street corridors by involving various stakeholders, ranging from technical agencies to historical communities and MSMEs. Warid Zul Ilmi (Warid) is the first student of the research-based master’s program, known as the Master by Research (MBR), at the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. He joined MPWK UGM in the Even Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year, bringing strong enthusiasm and dedication to research as a means of understanding, interpreting, and responding to various urban development challenges. Two students earned distinguished achievements at the Call for Paper – 3rd Aksinomi Sulampua 2025, an annual scientific forum organized by the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for South Sulawesi. This event serves as a platform for academics, researchers, and practitioners to present innovative ideas supporting accelerated economic development in the Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua (SULAMPUA) regions.

Under the theme “Unlocking New Sources of Growth in Eastern Indonesia,” the competition involved a rigorous evaluation process, including initial screening, expert review of full papers, and a final presentation and awarding ceremony held on 11 November 2025. Another proud achievement has been made by a student of the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Elsa, under the supervision of Prof. Bobi, won the 1st Best Presenter (General Participant) and 2nd Best Paper awards at the International Conference on Planning for Equitable and Sustainable Urbanization (ICPEU) 2025, hosted by the Urban and Regional Planning Department of Universitas Brawijaya on September 3–4, 2025.

In this conference, which focused on urban design innovation and community participation, Elsa presented her paper entitled “Pacu Jawi: Preserving Quality Tourism in Nagari Tuo Pariangan through Responsive and Inclusive Community Participation Principles.” The paper examines Pacu Jawi—a traditional bull race in West Sumatra’s Minangkabau culture—as a cultural attraction with great potential for quality tourism development driven by inclusive community participation. read more

Prienta, a Double Degree student of the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) Program at UGM, was selected as one of the delegates for the Youth Townhall Road to Y20 Indonesia 2025, held on August 2, 2025 at the Jakarta Library Hall, Taman Ismail Marzuki. This activity was part of the Road to Y20 Summit series leading up to the Y20 Summit in South Africa, serving as an important forum to gather the voices of Indonesian youth before being brought to the global stage.

The Youth Townhall was initiated by Indonesian Youth Diplomacy (IYD), a non-profit youth organization joined by Prienta. IYD is the official body responsible for selecting and facilitating Indonesian youth to participate in the Y20 Summit, the official Youth Engagement Group of the G20 Leaders Summit, as well as serving as the Youth Focal Point to the Republic of Indonesia’s G20 Sherpa. Prienta was motivated to participate due to the participatory nature of the program, which focuses on listening to youth voices through focus group discussions and consultations, later compiled into a communiqué to be presented at the Y20 Summit in South Africa. “This activity clearly shows that it can bring the voices of young people from the grassroots to the international level, quite literally and directly,” she said. read more

The Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada held its matriculation program for new students on August 11–15, 2025. The program brought together students from across Indonesia as well as international participants enrolled in the double degree track. Some students joined online as they were attending scholarship release activities in their home countries.

Throughout the five-day program, students received a range of materials designed to strengthen their readiness for academic life at MURP. Sessions covered UGM’s core values, academic writing and the use of AI, essential studio skills, and analytical approaches in urban and regional planning. The program also emphasized the importance of understanding multiple spatial scales (neighborhood, city, and region),and introduced students to spatial analysis tools. read more

Graduate students from the Urban and Regional Planning Master’s Program (MURP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada conducted a field study for the Research Methodology course in Krakitan Village, Bayat Subdistrict, Klaten Regency from May 23 to 25, 2025. This activity applied the inductive approach directly in the field, encouraging students to build planning perspectives grounded in real social, cultural, and environmental dynamics.

On the first day, students visited the village head’s office for an introductory interview about Krakitan’s history and for guidance on survey points. The cohort was divided into three groups (Macro, Meso, and Micro) to conduct community interviews. Students not only collected data but also observed how daily life and local history shape the village’s spatial and social identity. read more
